Hello! I'm Ricky Durkin! I started my professional radio career in 1991 at Pennine FM in Bradford, writing and voicing sketches for a weekend show. Soon after, I was given tech-op shifts and a Saturday evening show to present and in 1994, I moved to CFM in Carlisle to host six shows a week. Three years later, the late John Myers gave me the ‘Head of Production’ title and the evening show to present at Sun FM in Sunderland. A few months after that, I became the Programme Controller but in the year 2000, the lure of London beckoned and I followed John Myers to Radio Investments (a subsidiary of GMG) to become Group Head of Music. Just one year later, a journey back north saw me become the Programme Director of Alpha 103.2 in Darlington and I also oversaw Sun FM before taking on the Brand Manager (North) role for nine stations between Macclesfield and Stirling for TLRC. In October 2004, I was offered an even bigger job! Programme Director for GMG’s Real Radio Wales, a station that served two thirds of the Welsh population! I enjoyed four successful and happy years there before returning to my roots and becoming the PD for Real Radio Yorkshire which I worked at until a year after GMG’s sale and subsequent transition to Heart. Throughout this entire period, I was often heard presenting a few shows and voicing promos and commercials, but in 2015, I decided to put radio management to one side and go solo with a greater concentration on voice over and on air presentation. Since then, I’ve been heard all over the world on commercials, promos, explainer videos, TV ads., company films, on hold, and in-store at Christmas as Santa! Plus I’ve presented regular programmes on Minster FM, Stray FM and the current breakfast show at Peak FM.
